Hello !
Â
This week, is a week we have a different focus of gratitude.
Â
It is a time to pause and reflect on those who stand and fight for the freedoms that we are so blessed to have. As we stop and observe Remembrance Day here in Canada, the United States are doing the same for Veterans Day.Â
Â
Being the curious person that I am, especially knowing that Canada and the United States are celebrating this day, November 11th. However, this day goes by a different name and with a difference to its meaning. I wanted to know the fullness of this day for both and this is what I found.
Â
In Canada this day is called Remembrance Day: "Remembrance Day is marked annually on 11 November to commemorate the end of the First World War on 11 November, 1918. The day, also known as Poppy Day, is also observed to remember all those who sacrificed their lives in the war, and other conflicts that followed it.
Â
Â
In the United States it is called Veterans Day. It is celebrated on the same day. What was quite interesting is it was originally called Armistice Day and it is now celebrated every November as well. What is said about Veteran's Day is this: "Veterans Day honors all who have served in the U.S. military. The federal holiday is observed on Nov. 11, the day World War I ended in 1918."
