Our
Weekly Whimsy
Hello !
Summer holidays have now come and gone,
and so this month has found me in the kitchen ticking off items from my to-do list that I had been putting off for quite a
while. It has been a wonderful feeling to do so.
One of those items is getting back into dehydrating. A friend of mine had a bounty of kale to use
up and because of a lack of freezer room, I decided to try my hand at dehydrating instead of freezing.
Now I didn't just go straight to processing and
dehydrating the kale, I did some research. This is where Mr. Google comes in so handy. I love Mr. Google for times such as this. There is a myriad of information available for topics that I am sure that I will never exhaust and that also goes for the topic of dehydrating. My research led me to YouTube and some wonderful video choices. One video caught my eye, specifically on dehydrating kale, which led me to the idea of making my own green powders. I am
hooked!!
Armed with the information, I got my kale all processed and in the dehydrator humming along nicely. By the next day, it was ready to check and move on
to the next step. I am thinking the process is called curing, but please don't quote me on that. What I am doing with it, is making sure there is no moisture content, so when I finally jar it for the final storage, there will be no chance of it going moldy. That would sadden me. I very much dislike waste.
What I realized after was that I didn't take any pictures for you to see. Now that sadly in a way is a waste too. I won't leave you empty-handed or shall I say emptied-eyed though. I will add the link to the video below for you to watch and learn as you see the process I followed.
My kitchen on the other hand did not fare as well as the one in the video. Mine became such a huge mess to clean up after! After all these years, I still haven't
mastered the technique of clearing as I go along. I sure did enjoy myself making the mess though!
My kitchen is one of my most favorite happy places to be. It is where I find a lot of joy, freedom, and fun. This is where I get to be a researcher, a scientist, and an artist. It is a place of adventure, experimentation, creativity, and, believe it or not, even therapy. So, clear off those counters and grab a knife! Chop, chop, chop... chuckles
