When I was told that it would be good for me to detox from my computer, I rolled my eyes.
Well, the moment came when I naturally was able to do just that without meaning to. I finished up with all my work and schoolwork and was able to get away for a road trip and a holiday visiting family.
Yes, I did take my computer. I hardly ever leave my computer behind.
However, once I got to my destination, I did not have much time or the interest to pull it out and work on it. I did get on once though since I was committed to a meeting that was scheduled, but that was it. For the rest of the time, I enjoyed being where I was, with who I was with... my family, especially with my granddaughters.
During my time with them, we cooked, ate, played, ate, went for walks, ate, colored, ate, read, ate, watched the shows they wanted to watch, ate, painted their nails, ate, and watched them use tattoo pens on themselves as well Grandpa and more eating!
What fun!
There was no time for computer time!
I can honestly say, I will not roll my eyes when someone suggests a detox time from my computer ever again. It was a glorious time! I highly recommend it to everyone, especially those who use their computers a lot.
We do need to take a break from it. Being away from my computer for over a week, except for that hour and a half, was such an enjoyable and wonderfully busy being fully in
my day time.
As a bonus, I received the freedom to relax more fully and sleep more soundly. What a novelty! I even settled down earlier than
normal and got to sleep at a much more reasonable time each night. Can you believe it? I even noticed my brain felt more at ease too. All this was very interesting and an extremely pleasant change. Who would have thought!!
I do want to keep this change in my life as much as I can. I sure do! I will be intentionally working on this to make it become more of a natural part of my life.
Oh!! There was another thing I found with being away from my computer. It was a bit difficult to get back on to it. Today became my first work day on it since, gosh... I think almost twelve days and really, I didn't miss working on it at all. Imagine that?!
I have been enjoying not sitting and working on it. Most of the time my reason for being on it is to work, but one thing leads to another and I end up surfing uselessly for hours. Before I knew it, it would be so very late. Staying up
late on my computer is the worst. I lose track of time so easily without help, but even more so when on my computer.
And, I am not kidding
when I say late. I mean reeeeeeally late, like in the wee hours of the morning late!!! Oh my goodness!!!
Can you relate?
Is your computer like this for you?
Maybe there is something else? Something you can get lost in for hours, which you later wish you hadn't?
I offer you a technology/device challenge break. What could you take a break from?
It doesn't have to be long, maybe just a day. You might even be pleasantly surprised with the experience.
Being curious, if you do decide to take up the challenge, I would love to hear what you chose. What was the outcome of your choice? What did you notice and feel about yourself by the end of it?
May you find time to take a detox break to give you and your brain the time to
just relax and be focused on your daily life intentionally and unrestricted with ease, hope, gratitude, love, joy, and whimsy!
