As you looked through the list of strategies for dealing with physical stress from the
Whimsy a couple of week's ago, which ones stood out for you? I would love to know.
In this week’s Whimsy we will focus on ten strategies for dealing with emotional stress. The focus here is to continue to practice self-compassion and take care of yourself the best that you can. Take a look at this list*** and bring into your life what is most helpful while limiting your stressors:
Incorporate mindful deep breathing and relaxation techniques including prayer, meditation and journaling.
Maintain a form of physical activity such as walking, stretching, dancing or whatever form you are able to do as well as find enjoyable and sustainable.
Eat a healthy diet.
Get adequate and
good quality sleep.
Keep in touch with people who love you and can help support you, both practically and emotionally.
Ask for help from family, friends, religious or community groups with whom you are associated with.
Be watchful of your time management while also setting and honoring your boundaries.
Distract
your mind and focus on something else. Read a book. Find hobbies and creative outlets that bring you joy.
Take the time to relax. Close your eyes, while listening to music, or to the calming sounds of nature, maybe even take a soothing bath creating a spa-like atmosphere by lighting a scented candle.
Check out and utilize biofeedback
Even though it is normal to experience stress from time to time, chronic stress can have negative effects on your health and well-being. If it does
feel and becomes unmanageable or is significantly impacting your life, please please don't hesitate to seek professional help.
***Note the effectiveness of any of these strategies is very dependent on the cause of your emotional stress.

Along with prayerful journaling this is a verse that seems to always pop up into my mind to just step away, be still and breathe, knowing that I am safe in Him.
