Hello, !
It is never too late to learn something new!
Learning is for everyone! It is not for just the young. It is for anyone with curiosity and a desire to grow. Many people have discovered new passions, skills and opportunities
throughout their lives, and even later that they never imagined possible.
Lifelong learning can happen at any age. It doesn’t matter where you are in your life. It doesn’t matter what age you are.
Your brain can take in new information. It can adapt to new challenges! Studies have shown that keeping your mind active through learning can help improve memory and brain function as we age. This is very important!
For inspiration, here are some wonderful examples of famous lifelong learners who never let age stop them from doing what they wanted:
1. Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela spent decades fighting for equality. At 49, he earned a law degree. He became South Africa’s first black president. He proved that learning and leadership can develop later in life.
2. Laura Ingalls Wilder
She became the dearly loved author of the "Little House on the Prairie" series. She didn’t start writing her famous books until she was in her 60’s. Sharing her life experiences through her stories has touched millions of readers.
3. Harland Sanders
Colonel Sanders at 65, founded Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). He spent years learning about the ins and outs and experiencing the ups and downs of cooking and business. Now, his name and brand are recognized worldwide.
4. Grandma Moses
Anna Mary Robertson Moses started her painting career in her 70’s. She became a well-known and established artist. Her works were exhibited in museums worldwide well into her 90’s.
5. Yuichiro Miura
Yuichiro Miura at 80, became the oldest person to climb Mount Everest. This involved his dedication and continuous learning in physical training, climbing techniques, and
perseverance.
These stories show no age limit or expiration date for learning or achieving great things. It truly is never too late to learn something new!
It may be easy to become overwhelmed with concerns like time, energy, or even self-doubt when wanting to start something new. Learning doesn’t have to be this way.
Let’s look at these common obstacles and how to overcome them:
1. Time
Start small. There is no need to commit hours each day. Give yourself even 15 minutes of learning each day. This can make a big difference over time.
2. Energy
Choose activities that will excite you and you will look forward to. Find something meaningful and renew your curiosity to learn about it. When it is meaningful, you
will find energy instead of being drained.
3. Self-Doubt
Always remember, everyone starts as a beginner. Welcome to the learning process. Allow yourself to make
mistakes as you go. This can be expected. It is a part of the journey!
The world is full of wonderful and exciting learning opportunities! You have so much that is easily available to explore for ideas. See it as an adventure and be open to joyful learning, but please do not get lost
doing this and wait for one of these days.
Start now. Today is the perfect time!
Take your first step today! Go after your dreams, develop new talents, and rediscover that joy of learning.
